A Custom filter is a user-created compound filter based on Fraud Protection Services' existing transaction filters. Custom filter improve the accuracy of fraud identification and reduce the number of transactions held for review.
When using the individual filters, these basic filters make simple decisions, such as price ceiling or international address. These basic filters may send too many transactions for review. A Custom filter can identify much more distinct transaction risks by filtering on multiple rules, thereby reducing the number of "false positives" - transactions identified as risky, but are legitimate.
For example, a Custom filter defined with AVS Failure AND Total Purchase Price Ceiling will trigger only when the AVS fails and the transaction amount is over the specified amount. Neither AVS failure or high purchase total on their own will trigger the Custom filter , only the combination of the two.
Custom filters can be used to decrease the number of transactions that need to be reviewed - but still maintain optimal risk levels. These filters can also detect fraud risks unique to your organization or industry - based on any combination of specific amounts, buyer sources, shipping locations, or other details.
You can create a combined maximum (Test plus Live) of 15 Custom filters. For example, if you currently have 5 Test Custom filters and 10 Live Custom filters, you cannot create any more Custom filters until you delete one of the existing Custom filters.
